Analysis of Fatigue Damage in Bovine Trabecular Bone

چکیده
INTRODUCTION Cyclic loading of trabecular bone can lead to fatigue damage and increased risk of fracture in both young and the elderly populations. Fatigue damage processes in trabecular bone include reduction of elastic modulus and accumulation of residual strain. Development of models relating the above effects to the loading variables (stress, strain) is essential for a predictive understanding of the process. This study analyzes the effect of stress and strain variation on fatigue damage processes in bovine trabecular bone, and develops a model relating fatigue life to the stress level.

0733 - Fatigue Behavior of Human Vertebral Trabecular Bone
Introduction Over half of the 700,000 vertebral body fractures suffered annually by elderly Americans are unrelated to any single traumatic event (1) and the precise mechanisms of the fracture are not well understood. One possibility is that the fracture is due to a series of isolated, relatively high overloads (2); another is that it is due to lower level, more highly repetitive loads (3,4). I...
متن کاملA comparison of the fatigue behavior of human trabecular and cortical bone tissue.
The fatigue properties of trabecular bone tissue (single trabeculae) and similarly sized cortical bone specimens from human tibia were experimentally determined on a microstructural level using four-point bending cyclic tests, and they were compared based on modulus, mineral density, and microstructural characteristics. The results showed that trabecular specimens had significantly lower moduli...
متن کاملMandibular Trabecular Bone Analysis Using Local Binary Pattern for Osteoporosis Diagnosis
Background: Osteoporosis is a systemic skeletal disease characterized by low bone mineral density (BMD) and micro-architectural deterioration of bone tissue, leading to bone fragility and increased fracture risk. Since Panoramic image is a feasible and relatively routine imaging technique in dentistry; it could provide an opportunistic chance for screening osteoporosis. In this regard, numerous...
متن کاملP-181: Protective Role of Vitamin E As An Alternative Treatment for Ovariectomized Osteoporotic Rats
Background: Osteoporosis one of the postmenopausal symptoms is characterized by bone loss. There is a link between excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation, estrogen deficiency due to cessation of ovarian function and bone loss. Free radicals are responsible for causing osteoblast apoptosis and reducing osteoblastogenesis in bone remodeling. Vitamin E is a potent antioxidant with the a...
